Global Language Strategies, a language service company located in Northern VA, is seeking an experienced, certified Court Interpreter to support federal government customers. This is a freelance contractor role on an as‑needed basis with flexible schedules primarily Monday through Friday, 7 am ‑ 7 pm EST. Hours will vary by assignment, and rush requests (less than 24‑hour notice) may occur. Benefits Contract Freelance Flexible schedule Locations Various cities in Texas. Engagement Type Freelance contractor – as needed. Legal Interpreter Duties Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation between the target language and English, and vice versa. Lead three‑way telephonic, video conference, or on‑site interpretations between U.S. government officials, legal representatives, and low English‑proficiency individuals as required. Perform virtual remote interpretation using MS Teams, Zoom, or similar platforms. Travel to on‑site interpretation assignments (less than 50 miles round‑trip) as needed. Sign the certification form at the end of each assignment attesting to the accuracy of the interpretation. Minimum Qualifications U.S. citizen residing in the continental United States. Certified court interpreter. Willingness to undergo Public Trust security clearance processing. Minimum of four years’ experience in consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation. Training or extensive experience in court or legal environments. Strong command of both English and the target foreign language, including formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication, with knowledge of specialized legal vocabulary in both languages. Fluent in both languages, including regionalisms and colloquial slang, with the ability to maintain meaning without additions or omissions. Proficiency at least Level 3: Professional Proficiency per the Interagency Language Roundtable scale. Demonstrated adherence to the interpreter Code of Ethics. Strong oral communication skills, with appropriate delivery and poise. High professional standards for courtroom demeanor and conduct.
