Position Summary

Board members are responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and fiduciary oversight to CBS Food Program. Members are expected to act in the best interest of the organization, contribute their expertise, and serve as ambassadors to the community.
This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of time, energy, and engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Oversight

• Participate actively in board meetings and committee work.
• Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Review and approve organizational policies, budgets, and strategic plans.
• Evaluate organizational performance against mission and goals.

Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to the development and refinement of the organization’s vision and strategy.
• Provide informed guidance and perspective in decision-making.
• Support the Executive Director and leadership team through advice and accountability.

Financial Stewardship

• Review and approve annual budgets, financial reports, and audit results.
• Ensure adequate financial resources for the organization’s sustainability.
• Make an annual personal financial contribution at a meaningful level.

Fundraising and Advocacy

• Participate in fundraising efforts through personal giving, networking, and event support.
• Serve as an advocate and ambassador for CBS Food Program in the community.
• Leverage personal and professional connections to advance the organization’s mission.

Board and Committee Participation

• Attend all regular board meetings (typically quarterly) and annual retreats.
• Serve on at least one standing or ad hoc committee.
• Participate in board evaluations and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Commitment to the mission and values of CBS Food Program.
• Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and collaborative spirit.
• Experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas preferred:
  • Nonprofit management
  • Finance / accounting
  • Law / governance
  • Fundraising / development
  • Marketing / communications
  • Human resources
  • Education / social services / food security

Previous board experience preferred but not required .

Time and Financial Commitment

• Average of 2-4 hours per month, including meetings, committee work, and community engagement.
• Attend 4 board meetings per year and participate in organizational events.
• Make an annual financial contribution and assist in fundraising activities.
