We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager (GM) to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of our pool and hardscape company. The General Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of business operations, including project management, staff supervision, scheduling, budgeting, client relations, and ensuring high standards of quality and safety. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a deep understanding of the construction and outdoor living industries.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

 

  • Oversee all company operations including pool construction, hardscape installation, maintenance, and service departments.
  • Lead and manage a team of 15+ employees, including project managers, foremen, laborers.
  • Develop and implement operational policies, safety standards, and performance goals.
  • Monitor daily job site activities to ensure quality workmanship, efficiency, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Foster a positive and productive company culture that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

 

 

Financial Management

 

  • Work with ownership to develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial goals.
  • Track project costs, labor efficiency, material expenses, and profit margins.
  • Approve purchase orders, invoices, and payroll hours.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through cost control, vendor management, and operational efficiency.

 

 

Customer & Vendor Relations

 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and partners.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service and satisfaction from project initiation through completion.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality materials.

 

 

Project Management & Scheduling

 

  • Oversee project scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow coordination across multiple crews and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and local building codes.
  • Support project managers with conflict resolution, logistics, and problem-solving as needed.

 

 

Human Resources & Training

 

  • Supervise hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations for field and office staff.
  • Provide ongoing training in safety, equipment operation, and technical skill development.
  • Enforce company policies, promote a safe work environment, and manage disciplinary actions when necessary.

 

  Qualifications

 

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5+ years of management experience in construction, landscaping, or pool/hardscape industries.
  • Proven experience managing multiple crews or departments and overseeing 15 or more employees.

 

 

Skills & Competencies:

 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in project management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of pool construction, masonry, pavers, retaining walls, grading, and outdoor living installations.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, job costing, and reporting.
