The Head Coach organizes, coordinates, and promotes a comprehensive athletic program designed to:

1. Meet the needs and interests of the school community.
2. Provide effective leadership to ensure a positive learning environment and emphasize academic achievement.
3. Demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and positive human relations, serving as a role model for students.

This position reports to the Middle School Athletics Coordinator/Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities.

Location: Patrick Henry K-8 School.

Qualifications:

1. ACPS staff preferred.
2. Knowledge and background in the assigned sport.
3. Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport is desirable.

Essential Functions:

1. Instruct athletes in fundamentals, strategies, and physical training for individual and team success.
2. Educate participants on personal hygiene and safety, and reporting injuries promptly.
3. Inform students about the insurance program available through Alexandria City Public Schools.
4. Provide a safe environment with adequate supervision.
5. Maintain accurate performance records for individuals and teams.
6. Manage equipment inventory and records.
7. Communicate team policies and regulations to participants.
8. Ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations, including those of the Virginia High School League.
9. Complete required documentation and forms for league and school compliance.
10. Follow financial procedures regarding school activity funds.
11. Establish communication procedures with parents/guardians.
12. Promote athletic participation and handle public relations.
13. Implement injury response procedures and ensure first aid readiness.
14. Inspect facilities and equipment for safety.
15. Engage in professional development activities.
16. Participate in recognition and award programs.
17. Foster good sportsmanship and a positive atmosphere.
18. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the work unit's effectiveness.
