Overview San Jose State University is expanding its Housing Safety Team and hiring 14 Housing Community Service Officers to help protect and support more than 5,000 residents across campus and new off-campus housing. As part of the University Police Department, you'll patrol housing areas, respond to calls, and play a key role in building a safe, connected campus community. Responsibilities Performing foot patrols of housing buildings and grounds to maintain safety and visibility. Responding to calls for service, alarms, and emergency situations. Monitoring building access systems, CCTV, and fire safety systems. Assisting residents, staff, and visitors while encouraging compliance with housing policies. Reporting hazards, suspicious activity, and maintenance issues. Supporting University Housing staff and University Police during crises or emergencies. Writing clear and accurate incident reports. Participating in safety meetings and training with the University Police Department. Experience and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (required). Valid California driver's license. Six months of police, security, or military law enforcement experience (preferred). Experience working in a residential or housing environment (preferred). Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse, multicultural community. Schedule Work Schedule: HCSOs work three 12-hour shifts each week plus a 4-hour shift every other Wednesday. Both day and night shifts are available. Day Shift: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday, 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Night Shift: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every other Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m. Compensation and Benefits Classification: Community Service Specialist I Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,659/month CSU Salary Range: $3,461/month - $5,043/month What’s in it for you?
