Job Description

The Risk Manager plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to insurance, legal compliance, and subcontractor engagement. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure comprehensive risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, interpret and approve subcontractor insurance policies, certificates of insurance, and endorsements to ensure compliance with company and project requirements.
  • Identify potential risks and gaps in insurance coverage and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Advise internal clients on appropriate subcontractor insurance coverage based on need and risk exposure.
  • Review insurance provisions in contracts and subcontract agreements.
  • Lead the end-to-end management of complex claims including property damage, bodily injury, professional liability and subcontractor-related insurance disputes
  • Prepare litigation summaries and /or provide verbal updates to operation teams and Senior Director of Risk Management to ensure alignment on claim developments, legal strategy, and business impact
  • Serve as a primary liaison between the organization, legal counsel, and insurers.
  • Maintain and update claim management systems and documentation.
  • Coordinate the placement of project-specific insurance coverages, including Owner’s and Contractor’s Protective (OCP) liability, railway protective liability, and Builder’s Risk policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years previous management experience.
  • Ability to convey complex risk, insurance, and legal concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in negotiating insurance terms with internal teams, brokers, and vendors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving communication.
  • Active listening and issue resolution through clarifying questions and thoughtful responses.
  • Proficiency in drafting clear, professional emails and reports.
  • Ability to explain complex insurance terms in accessible language.
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of commercial insurance policies and contractual risk transfer.
  • Experience managing litigated claims and working with TPAs, insurance carriers, and brokers.
  • Familiarity with claim management systems and legal documentation processes.
  • Ability to assess and resolve discrepancies in insurance documentation.
  • Experience supporting litigation strategy and working with legal counsel on insurance disputes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate insurance requirements and address compliance issues with subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Skills in collaborating cross functional teams and subcontractors to ensure seamless insurance compliance.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of contractual risk transfer, indemnity clauses, and insurance requirements.
  • Experience in reviewing certificates of insurance and ensuring compliance with contractual provisions.
  • Ability to assess and mitigate gaps in coverage or non-compliant subcontract insurance submission.
  • Proficiency in claims litigation strategy, including coordination with internal and external teams.
  • Ability to coordinate the operations and broker on contractually required project specific coverage.
