The Workers' Compensation Claims Assistant will become part of a dedicated claims team and will focus on providing quality customer service to the claims staff, agents, insureds, claimants and other external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides quality customer service by means of making first contact, communication of expectations to customers and timely responsiveness and disposition of workers' compensation medical only claims in accordance with the Standards of Performance.
  • Completes timely coverage verification and thorough investigation necessary to ensure an equitable disposition of assigned complexity 1 claims.
  • Performs various claim support activities as necessary to include but are not limited to completing first reports of new losses, paying/ processing medical bills, completing denial forms for bills, processing wage forms and mileage, taking provider phone calls on medical bills, requesting investigative reports and documenting the file, sending affidavits, copying files, completing and filing state forms electronically and reinsurance reporting.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Qualified candidates will have a 2 year degree or equivalent work related experience.
  • 1 year previous customer service experience.
  • Workers' compensation background a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and computer skills.

Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:

Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The actual compensation will be determined based upon experience and other factors permitted by law. The initial pay range for this position is $42,000 - $56,000.
